Best shoes for 10k running, recommended ones

What shoes would you recommend for a 10km run? Something budget-friendly would be great, but I’m willing to spend more. I need your opinion on the Adizero SL2 and Asics NB5 – are they okay for 10km?

I started with 5km using Xtep2000 and I’m planning to train for 10km now.

Depends on what you want. Are you a runner running at a fast pace? Or just enjoy it? For runners at 5:00 PM, we recommend speed-focused carbon plates such as 361 ° Flames and Adidas Takumi Sen, as well as affordable carbon shoes. For those who run leisurely, if it is more than 6 minutes/km, cushionable daily running shoes are suitable. For example, Nike Pegasus 41, Nike Vomero 18, New Balance 574, and other cushioning shoes.

For racing? If you only have a training run, you can handle your shoes well. Except when you want to add speed shoes or race shoes.

5-6 minutes/km is 5 km and about 25-30 minutes. If it is speed practice, it is good to look for plate shoes. If you don’t like plates, EVO SL and NB5 are also options.

Since 30-33 minutes/km is faster than the above pace, it is enough if the current shoes are not a problem for daily training.

if easy run novablast 5 if tempo evo sl or flame 4

My running shoes are size 41 and run 5-10 km every other day. It has already broken 50 km. Comfortable and comfortable than Adizero SL2. However, when ordering, it is recommended to choose 0.5 to 1 size larger than usual size.

I think the Adizero SL2 sounds quite good for 10 km. From what I’ve read, it’s lightweight, has decent cushioning and responsive enough to make pushing the pace feel fun.

Just be aware that it seems to run narrow, so if your feet are wider you may feel a bit squeezed.

I haven’t seen anything major about “Asics NB5” - possibly you meant Novablast 5? If so: It’s very plush, lots of cushioning, great for longer efforts and easy runs, maybe less so when you want to push fast all the way through.

It could handle 10 km, but if you want sharper turnover and speed, you might want something with firmer foam or a more responsive ride.

Since you’re stepping up from 5 km to 10 km, durability and comfort over distance become more important. For that extra distance, I’d also consider shoes with a bit more midsole support (cushioning + stability) especially if you plan many training runs in between.

Some alternatives you might look at aside from SL2 / NB5:

Saucony Ride line (if affordable)

Nike Pegasus series

New Balance Fresh Foam / FuelCell

Brooks Ghost

These often give a good balance between cushioning + support + price.

when I moved from 5km runs to 10km, I found that the shoes that worked best were ones I could use across different workouts: easy runs, some pace work, and the longer run. If a shoe is too soft (too plush) it tends to slow me down on faster days, and if it’s too firm it beats up the knees on long ones.

So for SL2: sounds close to ideal, assuming it holds up, especially for pace work + longer runs. For the “NB5” (or Novablast 5 perhaps), great for comfort and longer runs / recovery, but maybe rotate with something sharper if you’ll be doing speed / interval training.

A shoe that fits well + breathable upper + a little more room in toe box is helpful for the longer distance (10 km). Also think about your running surface: roads / pavement need different outsole grip vs mixed surfaces.

If you want my two cents, I’d get the SL2 if it’s in your budget, and maybe a secondary shoe for recovery or slower long runs. That way you get both comfort and the ability to push the pace.
