Looking for good shoes for ultra marathon. It is mainly for trails, but it is not overly harsh and sometimes runs on paved roads. It is necessary for 100 km race during training. Who has experience using Salomon Ultra Glide 2? Or are there any other recommendations?
Great shoes. I bought two legs and have been wearing them for the past year. I also have ultras, but I always like them. There is a sense of stability.
Of course each person, but I love ultra glide and ultra glide 2. Since it is almost the same model, this impression applies to both.
In the recent 100-mile race, I was going to change shoes on the way, but because Ultra Glide 2 was very comfortable, I kept using the same shoes until the end. However, I often feel that Salomon shoes fit me, and I use Salomon almost always on the trail.
I’m a big fan of Brooks Caldera, but after all, the one that fits my feet best.
Once in a while, the Nike Pegasus Trail 5 or Zegama 2 is ideal. Hoka and Brooks are not recommended. I own the latest model Speed Gort 6, but it looks bad at only 120 km. My friend owns Brooks Cascadia 17, but with the exact same problem, I am bored after a few trail runs. On the other hand, my Pegasus Trail 4 is new even if it runs hundreds of kilometers.
I bought Pegasus Trail 5 yesterday and tried it immediately. I really liked it. I’m a Nike fan and this shoe fits my feet. It feels very comfortable and versatile. It is understandable that the absence of rock plates may be a concern when running on a rocky course, but it is not a big problem for me at the moment.
Yeah, it’s definitely the most comfortable shoe. It’s much more comfortable than Hoka or Brooks, but as you say, it’s not suitable for technical trails. It’s a hybrid shoe.
I really like my ultra glide 2’s
Inov8s are my go to shoes for anything trail
ASICS Trabuco Max 2/3 have served me well.
I’ve been using Trabco 11 for a while. Do you think it’s similar? Max seems to be more cushioned.
Max is a big step up in squish which I love for the ultra distance.
I owned the first model, but at first I liked it. However, deterioration began quite early. The cushionability was lost, and it changed to a heavy and dull feel. I’ve been wearing a lot of Salomon, but I probably was the only one who liked Promax. If you want cushioning, you should choose a hoka. In particular, Speed Go, Torrent and Techton X are recommended.
Ultra Glide is currently my favorite shoe. Both models are very good (personally I think V1 is slightly better). The only drawback is that outsole wear is fast on rocky trails, and performance is mundane on wet roads.
Nevertheless, I am wearing the fifth leg and two more are waiting.
