I just started running and want to start recording running data. I would like to participate in marathon events in the future.
What is the new Apple Watch for your progress management? I’m wondering what to do with SE, Series 8, Ultra. Is there a big difference?
Also, is there a recommended app to work with the watch?
Thank you.
I had series 3 or 4, but I returned to Garmin because the running app was not fulfilling at the time. I don’t think I’ll ever return.
I don’t think the series is important. There should have been people running marathons on Apple Watch before Ultra came out, so there is no need to buy Ultra for marathon. I wonder if I should buy the model I want.
The new Apple Watch OS update has significantly improved the workout apps that are standard on Apple Watch. It covers all the indicators you want to track when running. I particularly like the real-time heart rate zone monitoring function. The ultra watch is quite niche and very expensive, but the new SE is cost-effective and does not have much inferior functionality. Both three models have the same workout tracking function. Series 8 should be selected only if blood oxygen concentration measurement and ECG function are required.
I started running the Apple Watch Series 5 about three years ago. After that, he completed two marathons with a time of 3:16: xx and 2:51: xx. Both ran with Series 5 attached.
I bought Ultra this time, but I think it is wonderful.
I am aware that Apple Watch is not for full-fledged runners, and that other sports watches are better (certainly better in some respects, such as battery life).
SE provides exactly the same running measurement function as Series 8 and Ultra. If you just started running, SE is recommended. There will be many other equipment you want to buy for running (such as shorts and shoes), so you can save money.
You can review and upgrade after one year.
For tracking, the Apple Workout app is the best watch app for running records. After that, you can upload workout data to any service using your smartphone. I upload to Strava, but I recommend using a third party tool for this upload. Because Strava app can upload all measurement data as well as limited data.
They initially used standard sports bands, and then changed them to fabric sports loops for the next year. Currently, the Ultra model is equipped with an alpine loop.
Any running tracking is fine. It depends on what you need for functions other than running. Choose 8 by default. Electrocardiogram function and (probably) SE is sufficient if always display function is not required (SE always display function is unknown. I personally use Series 5, but I don’t use it at all). If you really don’t like charging every day and you have enough budget, you should choose Ultra.
If you really don’t want to charge every day and you can afford the funds, you should choose Ultra.
I purchased Apple Watch Series 7 and downloaded the Strava app. Great. It works with Bluetooth headphones to record running without smartphone or data communication/Wi-Fi. When you go home and connect to your smartphone and Wi-Fi, running data is automatically uploaded.
If your need for a smartwatch exceeds your need for a running watch, choose the one with the longest battery life on your budget and purchase an Apple Watch. If not, buy Garmin.
Garmin or Coros would be your best bet if you want one specifically for running
